Summary
I have had this rack for a couple months now and did about 10,000 miles with it on the truck. First and foremost the MPG's will decrease depending on how much gear you carry on it and how high it is. Also, my biggest gripe, the wind deflector is useless and merely acts as a sticker platform. There is gap between the deflector and the roof/windshield, which the air travels through and is noticeably loud. I would love for Baja Rack to invest in developing some rubber molding to seal that gap. The second gripe I have is with the strength of the tubing. Now I know that there is a strength to weight added trade off aspect to this, but I have bent the tubing a bit by just ratchet strapping the Rotopax fuel canister to it.
Now to the good stuff... It is very easy to install with detailed instructions. Baja Rack did include rubber bushings to put between the metal pieces to prevent rattling - this kind of attention to detail should have been carried over to the wind deflector. The coverage of the roof is perfect and it sits as low as possible to the roof without touching it. It has a cut out for the satellite antenna, which is a big deal for me as I live in the desert where radio signal or cell signal (pandora) is not always present. Plus I travel a lot - 3 months, 15,000 miles.
Baja Rack has a few different models and as always I opted for the flat platform that I can ratchet strap my items to quickly and easily. They do have a lot of accessories that let you attach and secure your gear to the rack - such as the solar panel frames that I have on the roof. The solar panel frames are made for the Goal Zero Boulder 30 panels and fit perfectly. The frames are well built and let you put a padlock on as well as change the angle of the panels to maximize solar absorption.
