Running 37’s on Rubicon D44’s. What will fail?
Did some testing with the current setup in Moab and on the Rubicon. Did a bunch of research for upgrades and I did everything right, I think, because I only had 1 failure. So the setup is aluminum 1-ton steering setup, chromoly shafts, trussed axles and re-geared to 5.38’s – which are amazing! So what failed? The stock rear locker. I figured that is my weakpoint and I made the mistake of locking it once under load. Then for the rest of the Rubicon Trail (and the drive back home to Phoenix) my rear would not unlock. I guess I got lucky that it wasn’t the front. Lesson learned – always lock your axles prior to obstacle when not under load. And keep the rear locked the whole trip as there is not reason for it to be unlocked.
